They also have designed, decorated and refined the property and the end result is STUNNING. There is not much to occupy bored children or teenagers at Ka'awa Loa Plantation, so if you have a young family this is not a great fit (though older teenagers might like the peaceful vibe.) Ka'awa Loa Plantation is ideal if you are an adult traveler with sophisticated tastes because the hosts (Michael and Greg) have a long background in hospitality and they bring all of that wisdom to your stay. There is no crowded swimming pool, noisy tennis court, or lurid gift shop. This place is not about the big splashy loud tourist experience. This family-guest-house aspect has a unique appeal, ideally suited to discerning adults who want a soothing retreat atmosphere. In fact, Ka'awa Loa feels like the ultimate tropical fantasy house you wish your rich uncle owned so you could go visit. Mostly, it feels like enjoying a luxurious family home. Often, you might find yourself the only person in the house because guests are out on fun island adventures. This makes the whole house feel much calmer, more private, and intimate. First, let me say the mood at the Ka'awa Loa Plantation is nothing like a large premium-brand resort hotel. If you are a traveler with the right mindset, Ka'awa Loa Plantation ranks with best 5-star hotels and I’ll tell you why in one word: ambiance. I am a demanding traveler and have stayed in the best hotels in New York City, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Kyoto, Lake Geneva, London, and a dozen of the finest resorts in the Caribbean. I visited Ka'awa Loa Plantation between Christmas and New Year’s 2016.
